Connection and expansion options

The Smartvox-Pika BRI IP-PBX must be connected to an Ethernet LAN network with access to the Internet. It does not include a firewall so you must ensure that there is a suitable firewall device between it and the Internet. It can work through NAT, provided some port forwarding rules are added to the firewall - we will advise you on this as part of the installation. The connection to the Internet must use a static IP address or be registered with a dynamic DNS organisation.

The Smartvox-Pika Asterisk Appliance has two slots which accept proprietry telephony modules (made by Pika). Smartvox will normally supply units with one 2-port BRI module already installed. The PBX can accept one further module thus allowing it to be expanded to a total of 4 BRI ports. Alternatively, the second slot can be populated with a 4-port FXS module (see picture below) making a total of 5 FXS ports (one FXS port is included in the base unit). If no BRI ports are required then two 4-port FXS modules can be used to give a total of 9 FXS ports. The Pika unit can also be equipped with a 4 port FXO module instead of the BRI module, but you cannot mix FXO and BRI in one unit.

Picture shows a unit with one FXO and one FXS module installed.
